Canada’s Penitentiary Museum

Built between 1870 and 1873, Canada’s award-winning Penitentiary Museum preserves and interprets the history of our federal penitentiaries. The museum operates from May to November.

Just a quick walk across from Canada’s Penitentiary Museum is the notorious Kingston Penitentiary, former maximum security prison and residence of the Kingston Penitentiary’s warden, which was later transformed into Correctional Service of Canada.
